What a garden clearance and tidy up covers
Some gardens slip out of control slowly: a busy summer, a few months away, a house that has stood empty or a garden that has simply become too much. Others come with a new house, already buried under brambles. Either way, a garden clearance and tidy up gets you back to a garden you can see, use and look after.
A clearance with Affordable Gardens & Landscapes can include cutting down long grass and weeds, pulling out brambles, nettles and ivy, cutting back overgrown shrubs and hedges, clearing beds and borders, uncovering paths and patios that have disappeared under moss and weeds, and gathering up fallen branches, leaves and other garden debris. Then the garden waste is cleared away, so you are not left with a mountain of cuttings to get rid of.
One customer summed it up in a review: "Absolutely brilliant job of my garden. They cut everything back and cleared all of the garden waste away."
Not every garden needs a full clearance. A tidy up is the lighter version of the same job, for a garden that has only slipped a little: borders weeded and cut back, the lawn cut and edged, shrubs trimmed into shape, and paths and patios swept and scraped clear of moss. It is a good option before a family occasion, after a long spell away, or as a one-off reset at the start of spring. If you are not sure whether your garden needs a tidy up or a full clearance, a few photos are usually enough for us to tell you which makes more sense.
Signs your garden needs a clearance
- You cannot see where the lawn ends and the borders begin.
- Brambles or ivy are climbing fences, sheds or the house walls.
- Paths and patios have vanished under weeds and moss.
- Shrubs have grown into each other and are blocking windows, gates or paths.
- You are getting a house ready to sell or let, or have just moved in.
- You are sorting out a relative's garden, or a rental between tenants.
- You simply do not know where to start.
How a clearance job runs, step by step
- Tell us about the garden. Call 07347 572509 and describe what you are dealing with. Photos are a real help.
- A look and a quote. We look at the garden, talk about what you want at the end and give you a quote.
- Marking what to keep. Before anything is cut, we agree which plants, shrubs or features stay, so nothing you value is lost.
- Cutting back. Long grass, weeds and brambles are cut down, and overgrown shrubs and hedges are cut back.
- Clearing. Beds, borders, paths and patios are cleared and the garden waste is gathered up.
- Taking the waste away. The garden waste leaves with us rather than sitting in a heap by your back door.
- A final tidy. Paths are swept and the garden is left tidy, ready for you to enjoy or for whatever comes next.
When to book a garden clearance
A clearance can be done at almost any time of year, and each season has its advantages. Late winter and early spring are a good time to cut back before the growing season starts, when it is easier to see the shape of the garden. Summer clearances deal with gardens at their most overgrown, although hedges and dense shrubs should be checked for nesting birds before cutting between March and August. Autumn is ideal for getting a garden straight before winter, and for clearing the ground ahead of new turf, a patio or a makeover the following spring.
What affects the scope of a clearance
- the size of the garden and how overgrown it is
- the type of growth, as brambles, ivy and woody shrubs take longer than long grass
- how much garden waste there will be to take away
- access, including whether everything has to come through the house
- anything other than garden waste on site, which is worth mentioning when you ask for a quote
- what you want at the end, from a cleared space ready for new work to a tidy garden ready to enjoy
Family run, fully insured and tidy
Affordable Gardens & Landscapes is a local family run business based in Knottingley, and we are fully insured. Clearance work involves sharp tools, heavy lifting and working close to fences, windows and neighbours' gardens, so it matters who you let in. The reviews we have received keep coming back to the same things: efficient, friendly, hard-working, polite, and leaving everything tidy. And if you feel a little embarrassed about the state of the garden, there is no need. An overgrown garden is exactly what we are there for.
After the clearance, and where we work
Once a garden has been cleared, it is much easier to keep on top of. A clearance is often followed by regular garden maintenance visits, and if a long-neglected hedge was part of the problem, our hedge cutting and trimming service can keep it in shape from then on.
We clear gardens from our base in Knottingley across Normanton, Wakefield, Castleford, Pontefract, Featherstone, Knottingley, Outwood, Altofts, Stanley, Rothwell, Ossett and Horbury. Call 07347 572509, Monday to Friday between 9am and 6pm, or send a message with a few photos, and we will send you a quote.
